The Barangay Council of Kamputhaw will hold an emergency session today to determine whether a declaration of a state of calamity is needed because of the fire that razed 10 houses in the barangay last Saturday evening.
The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has also coordinated with barangay officials yesterday and promised to help secure a temporary evacuation site to the 79 individuals left homeless by the fire.
The affected residents are now taking temporary shelter in a chapel and the Bahay Bulilit Day Care Center.
The Dept. of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) of City Hall is providing the victims with relief goods. The DSWS gave food packs yesterday morning and will continue to provide food assistance until Tuesday.
The City Hall had also sent two portable toilets and two tents to the barangay.
Kamputhaw barangay Captain Lorenzo “Bong” Basamot said the lot where the burned houses stood is a government owned property.
The Cebu City government is yet to give the financial assistance to the fire victims.
Barangays like Sta. Cruz and Sambag 2 also sent help to the fire victims.
“Maningkamut mi sa council nga makahatag mi og construction materials,” Basamot said.
