Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) was crowned as the Boys 17 champions after logging a 1-0 win against Abellana National School (ANS) in the 10th Thirsty Football Festival late Saturday night at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Angelo Ouano was named as the category’s most valuable player (MVP) after scoring the winning goal.
The bid of the Philippine Under 14 better known as the Leylam-Little Azkals ended at the Round of 16 when the team bowed to Silliman University via a penalty shootout, 2-3.
Ironically, the winning DBTC team was manned by some players who played in the Boys 14. The DBTC Boys 17 also had a member of the Leylam-Little Azkals in its lineup in Vincent “Ngitz” Lovitos.
Lovitos said that he opted to play for DBTC in the Boys 17 because he owed it to his school, who allowed him to play for the national team in the Boys 14 category.
In the Girls 17, Ateneo de Cebu (AdC) successfully defended its title against St. Theresa’s College, 1-0. Named MVP was Ane Ugarte.
In the 36 Above, ERCO retained its title via its B team who inflicted a 1-0 blanking of sister team ERCO A, who won the title last year.
Visiting player Sgt. Jezurel Tonog of the Philippine Air Force Phoenix of the United Football League brought home the MVP honors.
Another Don Bosco team ruled the Boys 12 after streaking past AdC A, 2-0, in their championship match. Named MVP was Miko Murillo.
In the Players 6, DB Razkals clinched the title with a 2-0 win against Don Bosco.
In yesterday’s Men’s and Ladies Open, knockout matches were still ongoing as of presstime.
ERCO A, which had Philippine Azkals team captain Emilio “Chieffy” Caligdong and Ian Araneta, , advanced to the Round of 32 after winning all four of its elimination matches.
The team went on to enter the Round of 16 with a 1-0 win against Indiana courtesy of Caligdong.
