Alpha shocks Delta in Cekalco

TEAM Alpha shocked powerhouse Delta, 94-91, in double overtime Friday night to earn only its second win in 10 games in the 2nd elimination round of the Center Katipunan A. Lopez Christian Organization (CEKALCO)-2013 Second Season basketball tournament.

Danny Desoyo orchestrated Team Alpha’s strong start by scoring 11 points in the first quarter that gave Alpha a, 19-11 lead.

Alpha led by single digits in the 2nd and 3rd stanzas before Delta caught fire in the 4th to finally tie the game at 67-all paving the first extra period. But the five-minute extension failed to settle the issue resulting in a 77-all deadlock for the second overtime.

In the second extension, Alpha’s high-leaping center Dondon Yap pushed his team ahead, 92-91, then calmly sank his two freethrows for the hard-earned win.

FEATURED STORIES

Danny Desoyo and Dondon Yap led Alpha with 23 and 22 points, respectively while Randy Damulo and Arthur Acosta paced Delta with 33 and 15 points.

In the other game, Bravo dominated Echo, 106-87 with Philip Nacar and Fritz Desoyo leading Bravo (3-7) with 26 and 23 points, respectively. Donald Catong and Ruel Dacuyan paced Echo (4-5) with 33 and 23 markers.
