Cruel joke leads to friend’s fatal stabbing

OFFENDED by a joke, a trisikad driver fatally stabbed his friend during a drinking session in barangay Poblacion, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

The victim, a certain Abay, succumbed to two stab wounds at the back the neck.

The suspect, Luciano Tribunalo, 44, a resident of barangay Dumlog, Talisay, surrendered to the police after last Tuesday afternoon’s incident.

Tribunalo said he got pissed off when Abay teased him that his wife left him for another man.

Tribunalo said he warned Abay to stop poking fun about his wife but his friend persisted on making fun out of his predicament.

“Sakitan kaayo ko nga maghisgot pa sa akong asawa labi na kay hapit na ang Valentines (It hurts me talking about my wife especially that the Valetine’s Day is coming),” Tribunalo said.

Police said the man left the drinking session but returned later and attacked his friend with a 12-inch knife.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but died along the way. A charge of murder was filed against the suspect, police said./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C/BONJOC
