ATOY “The Fortune Cookie” Co is back on the basketball scene after he was officially named as the new head coach of the Mapua Cardinals for the upcoming NCAA season.
Co, a former legend for both the Cardinals and the Crispa Redmanizers, was signed to a three-year deal as he hopes to have the same amount of success in coaching as he had in playing. He was a former PBA MVP, a member of the league’s 25 Greatest Players list as well as a champion head coach back in 1991 when he led the Redmanizers to the crown in the defunct Philippine Amateur Basketball Association.
“Hopefully, with all the support, in three years we will be playing for the championship. This year, my dream is to get into the Top Four. That would be a big achievement for the team, for me and for everybody,” said Co in a statement.
“His years of playing and leading his team to victories will certainly be an invaluable asset as he coaches the Cardinals. As background for a coaching role, there can be no substitute to actual court experience that produced positive outcomes,” said school president, Dr. Reynaldo Vea. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
