Floods swamp several towns in Cavite, Batangas, Rizal
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines—Several coastal towns in Cavite were submerged in knee-deep floodwaters caused by continued rainfall Wednesday. Flooding was also reported in various places in Batangas and Rizal.
The floods in Cavite prompted the provincial government to suspend afternoon classes from pre-school to the high school in the towns of Rosario, Noveleta, Kawit and Bacoor, said Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla by phone.
In other parts of the province, afternoon classes in Dasmariñas City and in General Trias were also suspended.
But Remulla said there was still no need to enforce an evacuation was the situation was still manageable.
Meanwhile, local government units also suspended classes in the towns of Alitagtag in Batangas and in San Pablo City, Laguna, a report from the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (DRRMC) said.
In its report Wednesday noon, the DRRMC said a total of 368 families were affected by floods in Batangas and Rizal that prompted them to evacuate to barangay halls and houses of relatives.
Article continues after this advertisementThere were 46 families (176 persons) affected in Batangas City; 31 families in Calatagan; and 15 families in Malvar – all in Batangas province.
In Rizal, 103 families (515 persons) were affected in Rodriguez town and 173 families (800 persons) in San Mateo.
