Police car hits, injures woman in Mandaue

A WOMAN was injured after she was hit by a police vehicle while walking along a road in barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, last Sunday afternoon.

Jennelyn Maravillesa, 33, of barangay Tabok, Mandaue, sustained bruises in the foot.

Maravillesa was rushed to the hospital by PO1 Harley Itang, who drove the police vehicle (a Toyota Hi-Lux with plate number SJZ-937) that hit the woman.

Itang, who is assigned at the City Public Safety Company, said he was not drunk nor did he fall asleep when the accident occurred.

Itang said he lost control of the wheel when he tried to avoid an oncoming motorcycle that encroached his lane on A.C. Avenue.

The police vehicle first hit a private car parked along the road before hitting the woman.

No charges were filed against Itang after he agreed to shoulder the medical expenses of the woman.

The policeman also agreed to shoulder the cost of repair of the damaged police vehicle and the private car./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
