Fire hits mid-rise building in Binondo

MANILA, Philippines—Fire struck a five-storey building in Binondo, Manila Thursday, said a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

Manila Fire Department Chief Inspector Emmanuel Carta said the blaze started at 6:07 a.m. at No. 218, Clara corner Sevilla in Binondo, and was put out 20 minutes later.

Initial investigation indicated that the fire was caused by an unattended incense left in an altar.

Carta said incidents like this happen during the Chinese New year.

“Ganitong-ganito ‘yung mga napapanuod natin kapag malapit na mag-Chinese new year eh. Parehas na parehas ang mga patterns (This is what usually happens when Chinese New Year is near. The patterns are the same),” he said.

Damage to property was estimated to reach P100,000, said the report. John Daryl Dimalanta
