Teams Hotel, Foxtrot score victories in Cekalco hoop
TEAM Hotel outplayed Team Bravo, 86-83, while Foxtrot blasted winless Alpha, 88-70, Friday night at the start of the 2nd round of the Center Katipunan A. Lopez Christian Organization (CEKALCO) 2013 Second Season basketball tournament at the A. Lopez open court in Labangon, Cebu City.
The game was tight right from the opening tip-off which resulted in deadlocks at the end of first, second and third quarters with the latter ending in a 66-all tie.
In the fourth, Hotel soared to a four-point lead, 84-80 but Bravo’s pointguard Fritz Desoyo made it a one-point game by nailing a crucial triple with nine seconds remaining. But Hotel’s skipper Kelvin Cinco calmly sank his two freethrows in the last two seconds to peg the final count as Hotel improved its win-loss record to 6-2. Bravo on the other hand, dropped to 2-6.
Kelvin Cinco scattered a game-high 29 points to lead Team Hotel while Dennis Valderama and Dave Benoya combined for 28 points.
Tata Maspiñas paced Bravo with 24 markers while Fritz Desoyo and Bryan Codilla added 28 combined.
Earlier, Foxtrot improved to 4-4 win-loss after blasting Alpha, 88-70.
Foxtrot led from start to finish and posted its biggest advantage of 25 points, 70-45 at the end of the third.
Bull-strong center Erik Yee fired a game-high 23 points for Foxtrot with Kikoy Tabasa adding 15 markers while Arven Zafra and Moises Craso chipped in 13 points apiece.
Dondon Yap and Kenneth Beltran paced Alpha with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
