Captivating Camotes Triathlon set Feb.10

CAMOTES Island will be hosting its first triathlon race when the Captivating Camotes Triathlon unfolds Feb. 10 in the municipality of San Francisco.

Fifth District representative Ramon “Red” Durano said they want to promote the island as another tourist destination in Cebu.

“Every chance we get to promote the island, we —-welcome it. Triathlon is only one. It will be a good exposure to the international market,” Durano said.

Durano said Camotes has generated a lot of interest lately and the island now has resorts that can cater to foreign and local tourists.

In fact, resorts in the island are now fully booked for the Holy Week.

The event has already gathered 20 Japanese participants and some of them have already visited Camotes.

The race will start at the Santiago Bay Garden & Resort, which boasts of an 800-meter beach front. From there, participants will bike towards Lake Danao on well-paved roads then have the run around the lake.

The first 20 local participants will be given free boat fare, accommodation and registration. As of yesterday, organizer Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez said only four slots were left for the first 20.

A free pickup will be provided for all participants from Cebu to Danao port and back. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
