THE Lapu-Lapu City Health Office will inspect restaurants in barangay Mactan following reports that 30 Taiwanese tourists suffered food poisoning last week.
The tourists who were brought to a private hospital in Cebu City tested positive for bacteria found in sea shells.
Before they fell ill, the tourists ate seafood in a restaurant in barangay Mactan.
Now that that the laboratory results confirmed that bacteria was found in the sea shells then it would be easy to identify the restaurant where they have eaten it, said Dr. Rodulfo Berama, Lapu-Lapu City Health Officer.
Even if no complaint has reached his office, Berame said the incident calls for investigation to prevent a similar case.
“We have trained personnel, mostly nurses who are conducting random surprise inspections to all restaurants in the city including hotel and resorts to know how they prepare their food.” Berame said./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
