MANILA, Philippines—The Senate and House of Representatives are expected to ratify the final version of the K to 12 (Kindergarten to Grade 12) law before they adjourn next week.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the Senate and House panels in the bicameral committee have reconciled their respective versions of the K to 12 law.
The bicameral committee report was expected to be signed Wednesday.
“Hopefully it will be ratified today,” Luistro said during the launch of the first Voice of Asia speech contest on Wednesday.
He said there were not many conflicting provisions in the two versions anyway.
The K to 12 law will institutionalize the new 12-year basic education curriculum which consists of mandatory kindergarten among five-year olds, six years of elementary (Grade 1 to 6), four years of junior high school (Grade 7 to 10) and two additional years of senior high school (Grade 11 and Grade 12).
Even without the law, however, the Department of Education implemented the K to 12 program this school year by introducing a revised curriculum for Grade 1 and Grade 7.
