Second alarm raised over rising Marikina River; evacuation underway

MANILA, Philippines—A second alarm has been raised as the water level of the Marikina River reached 16 meters as of 12:03 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Already, 33 families from Malanday Bulelak and H. Bautista have been evacuated, Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Francisco Manalo said.

Citing reports from Marikina police, Manalo said that the corner of Katipunan Avenue and Rainbow Street, Aquamarine Street in SSS Village, and Tangerine Street at SSS Village Concepcion Dos were submerged in floodwaters.

Commanders of Police Community Precincts were working closely with village officials, he said.

The highest water alert level is three.
