SUV yields high-powered firearms; 2 men arrested
MANILA, Philippines–Amid an ongoing gun ban, two persons with high-powered firearms were arrested in Marawi City Wednesday night, the military said Thursday.
The troops from the Army’s 65th Infantry Battalion at a Commission on Elections checkpoint in Datu Saber village flagged down a sports utility vehicle without a plate number, with the two suspects on board.
The two were identified as Muslimin Binao Ali and Junaid Ali.
Upon inspection, 12 high-powered firearms with ammunition were found inside the vehicle, said Major Edgardo Amores of the Army’s First Infantry Division.
The firearms were: one SAW Minimi 5.56 rifle, one SAR Galil Rifle, one 7.62mm M14 Rifle, four Baby Armalite 5.56mm M653 Rifle with M203 Grenade, two 5.56mm M16 Rifles, one Cal .308 Rifle, one 9 mm Machine Rifle and one US 12 Gauge Shotgun.
The two arrested persons were brought to the Marawi City PNP for filing of cases. The vehicle and the firearms were brought to the headquarters of 65IB for legal disposition processing.
