VACC member: Gun ban may result in higher crime rate
MANILA, Philippines—Arsenio “Boy” Evangelista, whose son was killed by the notorious Dominguez carjacking group, said Tuesday that the Commission on Election’s total gun ban may result in a higher crime rate.
“I think the crime rate will go up when it comes to crime against property, [and] crime against person,” Evangelista said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM, adding that “law-abiding citizens will be sitting ducks” to criminals who would still be wielding loose firearms despite the gun ban which started Sunday.
Evangelista said he believes that 90 percent of the total number of crime incidents happened outside of residence, office, and school. “[Then] why deny us of bringing guns outside of our residences when the state should protect us, like us victims,” he said.
Evangelista, who also represents the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, has six licensed guns.
