Hacking attacks

A man died while two others were wounded in hacking attacks in southern and western Cebu over the weekend.

In Pinamungahan town in western Cebu, a farmer hacked dead a man who attacked him inside his home last Sunday.

Rogelio Tabañag, of barangay Tahaw, sustained a stab wound in his stomach and arm.

He died before reaching the hospital.

Estanislao Manlangit, who was arrested after the attack, claimed that Tabanag attacked him with a piece of wood when he entered his house.

He said he pulled out his bolo to defend himself.

He was detained at the police station pending the filing of charges.

Last Satuday, in barangay Cansolo-ay, Oslob, southern Cebu,  a 40-year-old man was hacked and wounded by his brother after an argument during a drinking spree.

Jaime Licayan suffered a hack wound in the back after his brother, Joseph Jumalon at 4 p.m.

At 8 p.m. also last Saturday, a farmer attacked and wounded a neighbor after a heated argument during a drinking spree in barangay Calagasan, Argao, southern Cebu.

The farmer, Modesto Villaces, fled after the attack. The victim Eldefonso Llego suffered a hack wounds in the body and was rushed to the hospital for treatment./Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito

City stabbings

An Inayawan welder and a Kamputhaw resident were wounded in separate stabbing incidents in Cebu

City last Sunday.

Welder Jose Imperial, 40, of sitio Riverside, Isla Verde, barangay Inayawan, Cebu City was stabbed in the left chest and stomach and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Imperial, who survived the attack, told police that two unidentified assailants attacked him as he was walking in the sitio.

In Compound Purok 4, barangay Kamputhaw, Benjamin Sausa, 42, was stabbed in the left part of the body and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Sausa said his neighbor Gerry Arellano, 41, a mechanic, attacked him as he was walking to buy beer at a nearby store in the area.

Medal award

Former Cebu City police chief Melvin Buenafe received the Medalya Ng Kasanayan at the Police Regional Office.

Chief Supt. Samuel Yordan, deputy regional director for administration and Senior Supt. Erson Digal, chief of the Regional Operations and Plans Division, pinned the medal on Senior Supt. Buenafe after yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony at the PRO-7 headquarters.

The medal was given due to Buenafe’s exemplary perforce on his more than two year stint of Cebu City Police Office.

Buenafe is now assigned at Camp Crame. He serves as operation division chief in the office of Directorate for Operation./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

Centcom chief

The Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has a new commander.

Rear Admiral Edgar L. Abogado took over as the new Centcom chief in turnover rites yesterday at the Centcom headquarters.

Abogado, a graduate of the Class 1980 of the Philippine Military Academy and the commander of Patrol Gunboat (PG) 104 assigned at Naval Forces Central (NAVFORCEN), replaced Major Gen. Jose Mabanta, who was the acting Centcom commander.
