Manila policemen announced Saturday the arrest of an allegedly notorious criminal, believed to be responsible for several shooting incidents in the Tondo area, while he was undergoing treatment for a bullet wound at a hospital in Caloocan City.
Operatives of the Manila Police District in Juan Luna, Tondo Station 1 caught up late Friday afternoon with 26-year-old James Bryan Dean, who goes by the alias “JB Demonyo,” at the Manila Central University (MCU) hospital, where he was confined.
MPD station 1 deputy station commander Chief Insp. Jeffrey Decena revealed that Dean is the primary suspect in the shooting rampage last July 22 at the corner of Coral and Franco Streets in Tondo where Angelita Santos was killed while three other neighbors, including a teenager and an elderly man, were wounded.
Santos, a housemaid, of 621 Coral Street in Tondo, was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors at the Mary Johnston Hospital from a bullet wound in the body.
A witness named the shooter by his alias, “JB Demonyo,” but failed to identify his companion on the motorcycle.
Before the incident, the neighbors were having a friendly get-together at the street corner when JB Demonyo and his companion arrived on a motorcycle.
For no reason, JB Demonyo allegedly started firing a handgun repeatedly at the group. Santos was immediately hit during the initial shots while her neighbors sustained gunshot wounds as they ducked for cover. The suspects then fled.
Decena pointed out that Dean was apparently wounded in a shoot-out after the incident as he was being treated at the MCU hospital for a gunshot wound in the chest.
The MPD station 1 deputy commander said that the hospital discharged Dean and turned him over to police custody after his wound was treated.
