A man who has been tagged in a 2008 bank heist was recently identified to be among the armed men who barged into a Bank of the Philippine Islands branch in Quezon City this month.
The notorious robbery suspect is the one who brandished his long firearm in the middle of traffic to clear the way for his gang’s escape from the BPI branch along Commonwealth Avenue on July 15, police said.
He was identified by a witness as the suspect’s face was not fully concealed with a bonnet as he waved his gun to scare off motorists while his cohorts prepared to flee after the heist.
Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit did not divulge the suspect’s identity pending the filing of the case.
Marcelo however revealed that the man is known to be part of the remnants of the Ampang Colangco robbery group.
“The suspect brandished his firearm as if to scare off the motorists in order to clear the road for their getaway vehicles,” he explained, citing witnesses’ accounts.
