Fuel siphoning begins in ship docked at Ormoc City

The Coast Guard has started collecting fuel from the cargo vessel that listed at the port of Ormoc City, Leyte, and leaked fuel last Saturday.

Captain Pablo Gonzalez Jr., head of the Coast Guard in Ormoc, said at least 1,400 liters of oil mixed with water from the ship, MV Ocean Legacy.

The ship arrived at the Ormoc Port on December 29, carrying 110 container vans. It was supposed to be headed for Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental from Ormoc.

The vessel, however, listed on Saturday as the container vans were being unloaded from it. Traces of fuel were seen coming out of the air vent section.

Gonzalez said workers had started removing the container vans aboard the ship to make it easier to refloat the vessel. Joey Gabieta, Inquirer Visayas
