Three pickpockets maul cabbie in Fuente

THREE pickpockets mauled a jeepney passenger after he told them to return the wallet they picked from a fellow passenger.

Jenny Deguinion, an off-duty Sun Taxi driver, 33, suffered cuts and bruises on his face after the three men attacked him.

Investigation showed that Deguinion was aboard a 17-B jeepney from Lahug headed for Fuente Osmena. When a female passenger suddenly cried after she realized that somebody picked her pocket and stole her wallet.

Deguinion who claimed that he saw the three men pick the fellow passenger’s pocket told the men to return the wallet to the passenger.

But Zaldy Campaner, 31, and Roger Campaner, 20, both residents of Tanke, Talisay City, and Rosiano Pladero, 32, of Ronda, Cebu got angry at Deguinion.

Sensing danger, Deguinion hurriedly got off the jeepney and boarded another jeepney but Campaner, Rosiano and Pladero followed him and boarded the jeepney Deguinion was in.

They then attacked Deguinion using a piece of wood, a piece of cement block, and a bottle of energy drink.

After the attack, Deguinion reported the incident to police and headed to the hospital for treatment.

Police later arrested the three suspects and detained them at the Fuente Police Station pending the filing of charges./Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao
