Thief attacked in Mandaue

BYSTANDERS mauled a man they suspected to be a burglar last Sunday in barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City.

Jerome Balansag, 26, of Lorega, Cebu City suffered cuts and bruises after a house helper caught him inside the house inside the maid’s quarters carrying a sack.

The helper, Lea Angie Gecain, shouted for help as Balansag jumped over the fence to escape. Bystanders chased, caught Balansag, and mauled him.

Police later arrived and arrested Balansag They also recovered six cell phones and chargers inside the sack.

At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, in barangay Guizo, Mandaue City, two men on a motorcycle robbed Gina dela Cerna, 45, as she was heading home walking along the road in sitio Lemon.

Dela Cerna told police that the robbers were armed with a screw driver. They fled with the victim’s bag which contained P10,000 cash and two mobile phones worth P3,000./Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
