Two families were left homeless early Wednesday morning after the house they shared burned down in a fire in Navotas City, the sixth to hit Metro Manila this week.

The Navotas Fire Department said the blaze started around 2 a.m. on Wednesday in the house of Anita Paglinawan along Buwan Buwan Street, Kaunlaran.

It was put out an hour later, but not before it destroyed the two-story house and its contents worth about P500,000.

Two in a day

Two fires early on Christmas Day led to the loss of eight lives in Quezon City and San Juan.

Firefighters had their hands full controlling the fires which occurred almost at the same time.

One person was killed and 19 were injured, including three firefighters, in a blaze which razed at least 500 houses and left some 2,000 families homeless in San Juan City.

The fire started at around 2 a.m., with firefighters encountering difficulties in containing the blaze because of narrow streets and salvaged personal belongings blocking the way of fire trucks.

Some P5 million worth of properties were destroyed in the fire.

Another blaze, this time in Quezon City, claimed the lives of a family of seven.

The blaze hit a 16-door apartment in Barangay Bungad, trapping a family inside.
