2 killed, 6 wounded in ambush in Cotabato City
MANILA, Philippines–Two people, including a child, were killed and six others were injured when the van they were riding along with a village chieftain and his family was fired upon by still unidentified gunmen in Cotabato City Wednesday morning, police said.
Superintendent Marlou Martinez, Cotabato City police spokesman, said the alleged ambush on chairman Amil Sula and his relatives took place on Don Rabago Street in Barangay (village) Rosary Heights 4 around 7:15 a.m.
Killed were Sula’s nephew, Sherasmine Salik Abdullah, 18, and the van’s driver Paik Sultan, 21, Martinez said.
Wounded, meanwhile were the village chief, his wife Jenna and their 7-year-old child.
A report quoted Martinez as saying that spent shells were recovered from the crime scene.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.
