Shootings leave 2 dead in QC

TWO MEN were killed in separate shooting incidents in a span of two hours in Quezon City. Willardwon Uy, 26, died of three gunshot wounds in the head following an attack around 10:30 p.m. Friday inside an Internet shop at his neighborhood in Barangay Holy Spirit. PO2 Rhic Pittong said two men arrived on a motorcycle, entered the shop and shot Uy while he was playing computer games at Perfect Icon Internet Café on Republic Avenue. Later, around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, another shooting on Kanluran Street, Barangay Commonwealth, killed resident Gilbert Soriano, 37. PO2 Hermogenes Capili said that prior to the shooting, the victim and the two suspects were having a drinking spree in the area. The suspects were the first to leave and allegedly ambushed Soriano minutes later when he decided to go home. Julie M. Aurelio

 

Budget boost OKd for QC General Hospital

THE QUEZON City government is allotting close to P250 million for the purchase of new equipment and the improvement of medical services at Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH). In a recent resolution, the city council agreed to draw the money from the P270-million hospital development fund. Of this amount, P130 million will be for the purchase of magnetic resonance imaging machines, P35 million for mammography, P20 million for C-arms and P10 million for six incubators. Some P15.1 million will be set aside as additional funding for medicines; P7.7 million for the augmentation of the hospital’s information system hardware and cabling; P3 million for the outsourcing of linen; P800,000 for Internet and intranet connections; and P636,000 for cable connections. Located on Seminary Road in Barangay Toro, the QCGH is a 250-bed facility that seeks to offer high-end health care and diagnostic services to low-income residents.  Jeannette I. Andrade

Free towing at tollways on Christmas

THE AUTOMOBILE Association Philippines (AAP) is offering free towing for Class 1 vehicles on Tuesday, Christmas Day, on North Luzon Expressway, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, Skyway and ground level expressway from Magallanes to Alabang and the SLEx from Alabang to Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
