TRUCK loads of Mactan stones believed to be illegally extracted were intercepted by police in barangay Babag in Lapu-Lapu City last Thursday afternoon.
The trucks driven by Juan Pasionela, 22, and Mateo Pasionela, 28, both residing in barangay Cabagdalan, Balamban, Cebu, failed to show the police required permits to transport the products.
The Fuso Canter trucks bearing license plates no. YHJ 494 and YJF 661 driven by Juan and Mateo respectively said the stones were destined for buyers in Cebu City.
Police are investigating the ownership of the trucks based on their registry and determine if they are also involved in the illegal activity.
The Task Force Kalikasan of Lapu-Lapu City Police led by PO3 Kent Lisen were conducting routine patrol when they noticed said trucks loaded with Mactan stones.
When they flagged it down, the drivers failed to show necessary documents to possess and transport the stones used as construction materials, thus, the confiscation.
The confiscated items are now in the custody of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Lapu-Lapu City for proper disposition. Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
