/ 12:07 PM December 21, 2012

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police is set to out the country under heightened alert in anticipation of the Christmas and New Year revelry, its spokesman said Friday.

Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said a heightened alert status will take effect in Luzon and Visayas on Sunday at 5 p.m., without, however, mentioning the number of police officers to be deployed for the holiday season.

“The rest of the country, particularly in Mindanao, will remain under full alert status,” Cerbo said.

Cerbo said the heightened alert status will remain in effect until the New Year.

“Ang last directive galing sa national headquarters ay maging vigilant ang lahat ng units sa buong bansa para sa nalalapit na Christmas and New Year,” Cerbo said.
