10 kilos of shabu found in car of Quezon ambush victims—police

LUCENA CITY–The three motorists slain in an ambush by two motorcycle-riding gunmen on Quirino Highway in  Quezon on Monday morning turned out to be members of a big-time drug syndicate after their car yielded 10 kilos of high grade “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride),  the top police official in Quezon province disclosed Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Valeriano de Leon said that after a thorough inspection of the bullet-riddled Nissan Cefiro (license plate UPW 803), the investigators discovered one bag hidden in the back of the driver’s seat containing five gift-wrapped boxes.

“Each bag contains two kilos of high-grade shabu,” De Leon told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a phone interview, adding that the illegal substance was worth an estimated P20 million in the street market.
