Mandaue assigns area, guidelines for pyrotechnic vendors
THE Mandaue City government has designated an area near the Mandaue City Public market where vendors can sell pyrotechnic products.
The Bureau of Fire Protection has also made available the guidelines for the vendors who wish to sell the products in the area.
No takers
But as of press time, no vendors had yet filed their application to sell in the area, SFO3 Sherwin Porcia, chief of Fire Safety Enforcement Section, said.
The designated area is the vacant lot near the market facing the sea.
Porcia said the Fire Code of the Philippines would require the stalls to be separated by a firewall but since the stalls would be temporary, a certain distance between stalls would be imposed.

The accident happened two hours before Christmas of 2009, when a stall displaying fireworks caught fire when a wayward firecracker fell on the display.
The accident killed a pregnant woman and two children. Six people also suffered burn injuries during the incident.
Porcia said no firecrackers would be allowed to be sold by the vendors because of the existing city ordinance banning the selling of fireworks in the city./Correspondent Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
