Modest ceremony marks opening of Prisaa meet
A simple opening ceremony yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum signaled the start of the annual Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Regional Finals.
Competition in this multi-sporting meet participated by the region’s different private schools and universities begin today in different venues that includes the Cebu City Sports Center.
The other venues include the Southwestern University sand court and gym for beach volleyball and volleyball, respectively, and the Cebu Coliseum for basketball games.
“We thought Cebu will only be competing the regional finals but we are glad that Dumaguete and Bohol decided to join,” said Cebu City Sports Commissioner Ryan Aznar, also the athletic director of the Southwestern University (SWU), in yesterday’s opening.
PRISAA chief Fr. Vic Uy was not able to attend the opening ceremonies yesterday due to personal concerns.
Winners here will Region 7 in the Prisaa national finals on February 2013 in Pangasinan. Region 7 is the reigning national Prisaa champion.
Article continues after this advertisementAmong the top Cebu schools competing in this meet will be SWU, University of Cebu, University of San Carlos, Cebu Doctors University, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, University of the Visayas and University of San Jose Recoletos.
Aznar said he is hoping the best athletes emerge from this meet so the region can maintain its dominance in the nationals.
