Blackwater face leader NLEX today
THE Blackwater Sports Elite will try to take advantage of a vulnerable NLEX Road Warriors squad as the two teams square off today in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup over at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The mighty Road Warriors were proven to be fallible after all as they were taken down by the Café France Bakers in stunning fashion, 52-66, last Tuesday afternoon, which ended the former’s incredible 24-game winning streak dating back to the semifinals of this very same conference earlier this year.
The Elite themselves, are also on a roll and hope to pounce on the Road Warriors’ woe to try and extend their four-game run. Game time is 2 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. It follows the 12 noon first game between Boracay Rum (1-5) and winless Informatics.
A fifth straight win by Blackwater Sports would brighten up its chances of earning an outright spot in the semi-finals of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup. The Elite (4-1) have picked up the pace after losing their opening game mainly because they are playing well defensively, limiting opponents to just 68 points. If they could hold NLEX within that range, they have a big chance against the defending champions.
But while beating the Road Warriors is not impossible, records show that the defending champs (7-1) have not lost two straight games in the previous three conferences.
Meanwhile, Boracay Rum hopes to follow-up its breakthrough, 63-53 win against Jose Rizal University last week to stay in contention for spot in the quarterfinal round. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
