Allan John Estival, an electrician, of Block 2 Lot 3 Pilot Area, in Barangay Commonwealth, was armed with a .38 cal. revolver but was apparently not able to defend himself from his attacker and was killed on the spot.
PO2 Anthony Tejerero, of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said that Estival’s body was discovered at around 11 p.m. in front of a sari-sari store (variety) along Roxas Street, Pilot Area 3, in Barangay Commonwealth.
According to Tejerero, Grace Nabia was closing down her store when she noticed a man covered in blood slumped on the ground nearby. Nabia immediately recognized Estival and sought help from the victim’s relatives and barangay officials, who called the police.
The case investigator said that the Scene of the Crime Office (SOCO) personnel recovered Estival’s gun and a bullet casing from the revolver. Near the victim’s body were a half-empty beer bottle and three bullet casings from a .38 cal. pistol.
Tejerero told the INQUIRER that no witness to the actual shooting has yet come forward, thus, it was too soon to tell if Estival had shot it out with his attacker. “His hands have to be tested for traces of gunpowder,” he said.
Before the shooting, however, a witness saw Estival drinking alone near the store and talking with another customer, Tejerero said.
The case investigator said they are still identifying the person last seen with the victim as he may be able to help shed light on the killing.
