MANILA, Philippines—A policeman was killed and another was injured when suspected members of the New People’s Army guerrillas allegedly raided a police station in Palawan province Wednesday morning, police said.

Captain Salvador Tabi, Police Provincial Office Palawan spokesman, said the still unidentified number of rebels wearing military uniforms and posing as members of government forces entered the Roxas town police station at 9:45 a.m., saying that they are to turn-over arrested rebel members.

Upon gaining entrance, Tabi said the men then introduced themselves as NPA rebels and disarmed the duty officers at the station.

A report said the NPA rebels seized at least eight firearms and some of the station’s communication equipment.

Some of the officers tried to fight off the rebels, Tabi said, resulting in the death of Senior Police Officer 3 Mancito Rabang, and injury to Senior Police Officer 2 Pablo Acosta.

Check point operations have been launched for the possible arrest of the rebels.

Meanwhile, other reports said another police officer, aside from Rabang, was killed during the raid, but Tabi was quick to clarify that this information is yet to be validated.
