2 dead as Marines, Abu Sayyaf clash in Sulu—report

MANILA, Philippines – Two Marines were killed in the ongoing firefight with suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Patikul, Sulu, 990AM said, quoting reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo Thursday.

The report said the fighting, which began at 4 a.m. of the same day, has been raging for about eight hours. Aside from the dead, 21 other Marines were injured and five others were reported missing. All of the victims have not been identified.

The report said the soldiers were part of the Marine Batallion Landing Team 11 that were on patrol when they were attacked by 70 Abu Sayyaf bandits, led by Radullan Sahiron and Isnilon Hapilon.
