MANILA, Philippines—A total of 1,685 ship passengers have been stranded in nine sea ports in different parts of the country as of Monday, as Typhoon “Pablo” approached Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
In its latest advisory, the NDRRMC said 54 “roll-on, roll-off” cargo ships and 25 other smaller sea vessels were prohibited from leaving the ports in the National Capital Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao, prompting 1,685 passengers to stay in the seaports.
The NDRRMC said the Department of Social Welfare and Development has allocated a total of P42.35 million worth of relief goods, including P3.7 million in stand-by funds, in the areas which could be affected by the typhoon.
Pre-packed food items were ready to be distributed to some 10,000 families in the provinces in northern Mindanao, the agency said.
