IT was an all Kenyan show in the first ever Prycegas International Marathon held in Cagayan de Oro City yesterday.
Kenyans James Tallam and Monica Jepkorir Mengich lorded the 42-kilometer full marathon race organized by Prycegas at the Pryce Gardens.
Tallam clocked two hours, 24 minutes and 28 seconds to win the mens crown while Mengich clocked three hours, six minutes and 19 seconds to bag the women’s crown.
Fellow Kenyan David Kepsang finished second in the men’s side with a time of two hours, 29 minutes and 25 seconds while Abraham Missous rounded off the top three with a time of 2:33.01.
Mengich’s closest pursuer in the distaff side was veteran runner Michelle Gilbuena, who clocked 3:08.52, while Cresabel Cadion placed third third with a time of 3:20.30.
In the 21k, Kenyan Willy Rotich grabbed the top spot with a time of 1:08.03 while Kenyan Jackeline Nzivo outran Cebu’s top bet Mary Joy Tabal in the distaff side with a time of 1:22.39.
Sonny Wagdos and Crisylen Jaro topped the 5k category with times of 14:52.10 and 18:54, respectively.
Part of the proceeds of this event will go to various scholarship and community outreach programs of Prycegas. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
