Lapu-Lapu City’s ‘Health Run’ will feature nine legs
CLOSE to a thousand running buffs from various barangays of Lapu-Lapu City will take part in the first “Health Run” which is a project of Lapu-Lapu Sports Tourism chairman and Councilor Harry Radaza.
The event will unfold on Aug. 6 in Barangay Mactan to Punta Engaño for the series’ first of nine legs.
Radaza said he expects more runners to enlist on race day. He disclosed that he and his team also conducted a successful dry-run last Saturday.
Meanwhile, Daniel Walker of HJ Marine in Lapu-Lapu pledged to give commemorative medals for all the runners who can complete the nine legs aside from the medals from the Run For Sight Foundation for leg finishers.
The Lapu-Lapu PNP will deploy 10 policemen while CTMS promised to field more officers to ensure order and smooth traffic flow on race day. The Lapu-lapu Confederation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association Inc. (LACTODA) also pledged to join the running event where they will get a discounted registration fee.
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) will also join the event as well as various running clubs in Lapu-Lapu including those from the Mactan Export Zone.
Radaza also utilized the manpower of the Lapu-Lapu City government by training some employees to become race marshals in a bid to organize his own technical group.
The first three legs of the series will offer shorter distances including 1.5-kilometer, 3k and 5k while the fourth to sixth legs will have 2k, 4k and 6.48k. The 7th and 8th legs will feature 3k, 6.48k and 8k distances while the final leg on Nov. 19 will have 3k, 6.48k and 10k.
The event is exclusive to Lapu-Lapu residents only while an optional membership fee of P200 will entitle a registrant to own a singlet and wrist band with a number code that will be used in a raffle draw where exciting prizes are at stake.
“I think the ultimate success for this event is when other cities will also make their own races similar to ours,” said Radaza.
