Aman Futures money being used for terror plots ‘a far-out’ idea, say Army generals

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Far-fetched.

This is how top military officials consider reports about funding from Aman Futures Group Philippines Inc., being used for terror activities.

“I have no idea about this and I have not received any report from the team on the ground that Aman funds were used for terrorism, walang ganyang anggulo (there’s no such angle),” Armed Forces Vice Chief of Staff General Noel Coballes told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone.

“But I will ask the intelligence community to check on this,” Coballes said.

Maj. Gen. Rainier Ricardo Cruz, 1st Tabak Division commander, also denied receiving such a report.

“Wala kaming balita na ginamit yun sa terrorist activities (We don’t have reports that the money was used for terrorist activities),” Cruz said.

Col. Randolph Cabangbang, former spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command, said Aman’s activities were “purely panggagantso (purely scam).”

“They would not have saved millions if they funded terror activities. It is purely a money-making scheme,” he said.

Brig. Gen. Daniel Lucero, chief of the Lanao del Sur-based 103rd Brigade of the Philippine Army, also called the reports of Aman money being used for terror activities a “far-out” idea.
