2 village watchmen die in Catanduanes motorcycle accident

MANILA, Philippines—Two village watchmen died after a motorcycle accident in Catanduanes early Wednesday, police said.

Police Inspector Arthur Matos, San Andres chief of police, identified the fatalities as Norvin Baynosa, 35, and his backrider Eddie Samonte.

Matos said the victims were on their way home towards Barangay (village) Mayngaway after attending the “Liga ng Barangay Night” when they accidentally fell into a concrete canal in Barangay (village) Divino Rostro in San Andres, Catanduanes at 3:35 a.m.

The two were allegedly drunk and were not wearing their helmets, Matos said.

He said the victims were rushed to hospital, but Baynosa died just a few minutes after arrival, while Samonte passed away around 10 a.m.
