Leonen, 8 justices attend SC flag rites

MANILA, Philippines – Newly appointed Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen attended Monday’s flag ceremony along with eight other justices.

Leonen, the youngest to be appointed justice this century and the second in the history of the Supreme Court, said he represents the youth sector in the high court.

Leonen also stressed the importance of cooperation to be able to accomplish the court’s targets.

Aside from Leonen, also present in Monday morning’s flag ceremony were Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco, Arturo Brion, Mariano Del Castillo, Roberto Abad, Martin Villarama, Jose Perez and Jose Mendoza.

Leonen, who is turning 50 on December 29 will serve as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court for 20 years.

He is the only high court associate justice with a verified twitter account.

On his November 24 tweet, he said he was already building his staff of lawyers and paralegals.
