Police confident of solving Naga murder

There are witnesses who can identify the three assailants who fatally shot a woman in Naga City, southern Cebu, according to police.

Investigators were confident of solving the killing of Margarita Capablanca, 50, since the assailants did not cover their faces during last Tuesday’s attack, said Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO).

Comendador said he instructed the Naga police to immediately solve the killing.

Police are already working on the assailants’ artist sketches.

Capablanca of sitio Grayrocks, barangay Pangdan was shot dead while she and her eldest son Joel were about to board a passenger bus and were on their way to attend a court hearing in Cebu City.

Joel survived the attack.

The gunmen could be members of a gun-for-hire group, Comendador said.

Comendador said investigators are looking into the possibility that the killing was related to the attempted murder case that Joel filed against his neighbor Reynaldo Hernani.

Police are also checking a report that Joel was involved in an altercation in Naga last Jan. 14.

After the incident, Comendador met with Naga City Mayor Val Chiong where they discussed the plan to organize a Special Weapons and Tactics team in the city.

Chiong also planned to install security cameras in the city’s major streets, said Comendador./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
