MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III will sit down with grade school students in Quezon City and read them a story on November 27 as part of the celebration of the National Reading Month.
In a statement, Quezon City Representative Jorge Banal said that the month-long event sought to promote the love for reading through various storytelling activities. Aquino’s part will be the culmination of the event, he said.
The President’s storytelling activity coincides with the birthday of his father, the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. Banal said the National Reading Month drew inspiration from “the life of Ninoy who found hope and inspiration in books and letters from his family during the dark years of his incarceration at Laur, Nueva Ecija.”
The Department of Education declared November as the National Reading Month last year through Memorandum No. 182 and urged schools to prepare activities to promote reading among their students.
