Classes suspended in 7 regions

MANILA, Philippines – Classes were suspended in Regions 1, 2, 3 4A, 5, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday.

In its situation report, the NDRRMC said that Department of Education NCR Regional Director Elena Ruiz declared the suspension of all classes in the pre-school, elementary and high school levels in all public and private schools in the entire region.

In Region 1 (Ilocos), DepEd Regional Director Ligaya Miguel also declared automatic suspension of classes.

Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) DepEd Regional Director Benito Tumamao, as per DepEd guidelines in suspension of classes, declared the suspension of classes in the Pre-school level in all public and private schools in Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.

All classes in pre-school, elementary and high school levels in public and private schools in Bataan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales, Aurora, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon were also suspended.

DepEd 4A (Calabarzon) Regional Director Sinforosa Guinares declared the suspension of classes in the preschool and elementary levels in public and private schools in Occidental Mindoro. In Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon suspended its classes in the Pre-school level has been suspended.

Region 5 (Bicol) will make its decision depending on local situation and in accordance with the weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Local authorities [LGU, DepEd local officials and school heads] may declare cancellation of classes in their respective areas,” the NDRRMC said.

In CAR, classes in the pre-school level (public and private) will automatically be suspended in Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mt. Province and Benguet due to the signal number 1 raised by Pagasa.
