Congress calls off work, session but not in Judiciary

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate and the House of Representatives cancelled work and session this Wednesday due to the bad weather caused by Tropical Storm “Juaning”.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s directive was relayed early Wednesday morning to the Senate employees and reporters through a text message by a staff from the office of the Senate Secretary.

“To all Senate officers and employees, from the Senate Secretary, per instruction from the Senate President, [there will be] no work at the Senate today [Wednesday] due to typhoon [Tropical Storm as posted] Juaning,” said the text.

“Plenary session [is also] cancelled,” it added.

At about 8 a.m., Speaker Feliciano Belmonte made a similar announcement, a 990AM reported.

In the same report, lawyer Midas Marquez, spokesman for the Supreme Court, said it will be a working day at the Judiciary.
