A suspected robber was killed while a policeman was wounded in a shoot-out in Imus City on Saturday, authorities said on Sunday.
Police have yet to identify the fatality but intelligence reports led them to believe he was from Las Piñas City, according to Imus police chief Supt. Redrico Maranan.
The gunfight happened at around 1:45 a.m. in Barangay Buhay na Tubig.
Maranan said undercover policemen were deployed to the village after a convenience store was robbed on Thursday. “Robbers tend to cool down for a few days but normally, they return to the area and target nearby stores,” he said.
On Saturday, policemen noticed four men on board two motorcycles that seemed to be spying on another convenience store in the area. When flagged down by cops, the suspects took off and fired at the lawmen, hitting PO2 Gerry Baniasia in the leg.
Maranan said the slain suspect was hit when the police fired back while his companion on the motorcycle escaped on foot. Two other suspects fled on another motorcycle. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
