Three pregnant women, who were among the eight other people wounded in the incident that took place along the Maharlika Highway, were in critical condition around 10 p.m. Sunday.
Police Officer 3 Arnel Calibjo, investigator at the Puerto police station, said the limestone-loaded truck with license plate YCM 801 and being driven by Ponciano Manipis came from Manolo Fortich town in nearby Bukidnon and was cruising the highway when it suddenly swerved out of lane and hit the shanties.
Killed were Mario Bahe and his five-year old son, John Lord; and Mario Aluya.
Calibjo said Manipis later told investigators the truck’s brakes suddenly malfunctioned and he lost control of the vehicle.
