QC clamps down on fake receipts

/ 11:00 PM November 17, 2012

The Quezon City council has urged the local government to step up its efforts to curb the proliferation of fake receipts at the city hall.

In a resolution, the city council called on the city treasurer and the information technology office to institute security measures to stop the use of such counterfeit documents.

City councilor Godofredo Liban II noted the increasing incidence of such receipts used to fake payments for real property tax, transfer tax and regulatory fees and charges in the office of the city treasurer.

He said these spurious receipts could have been done in connivance, conspiracy, consent or cooperation of some unscrupulous city officials and employees.

“This is to the damage and detriment of the city government which resulted in the failure to collect enormous amount in revenues which could have been used to support the city’s programs,” Liban added. Julie M. Aurelio
