San Beda makes quarters
NCAA powerhouse San Beda Red Cubs barged into the quarterfinal round after claiming their third win in a row by beating the Letran Squires, 77-57, in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship last Sunday at the Chiang Kai Shek College gym in Manila.
The Red Cubs came out firing on all cylinders and took the fight out of their opponents as early as the first half to set the tone for the lopsided win. San Beda had its biggest lead of the game at 62-34, heading to the payoff period.
In other matches, the reigning Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA) champion Chiang Kai Shek College upset the San Sebastian Staglets, 81-75, in overtime while Hope Christian High School outlasted National University, 61-50./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
