THE LONG ROAD towards a berth in the Final Four begins today as the stepladder phase of the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League continues with the Southern Islands Championship at the Cebu Coliseum.
Four teams start their journey this afternoon as the West Negros University (WNU) from Bacolod City and Holy Trinity of General Santos battle one another in the curtain-raiser set for 2 pm. Then, the main offing will feature the nine-time Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers taking on the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars.
WNU and Holy Trinity earned the right to be here after topping the Visayas and Mindanao qualifiers held in Dumaguete and Iligan City, last month.
UV and USJ-R, on the other hand, earned their spots after finishing second and third place in the 2012 Cesafi tournament.
The Green Lancers in particular are antsy for redemption after falling in the deciding Game 5 of the Cesafi title series to the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras.
“We are more prepared now more than ever. We practiced twice a day for this tournament. We are eager to bounce back from that disappointing Game 5,” said UV head coach Felix Belano./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
