Did you know: Pedro Gil

/ 10:38 PM November 12, 2012

Today, November 13, is the 123rd birth anniversary of the late physician, journalist and legislator Pedro Gil. One of the architects of Philippine independence from the United States, he was closely identified with opposition groups. He published the newspaper “Los Obreros,” which he dedicated to the laboring classes.

A representative for the south district of Manila, he worked for the reduction of his city’s public utility rates. After his death on Jan. 5, 1965, Herran Street in Manila was renamed in his honor.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
