POLICE conducting a gun raid ended up arresting a barangay captain for alleged possession of illegal drugs in Buenavista town in Bohol province.

Police said packs of suspected shabu worth at least P920,000 were found in the possession of Poblacion barangay captain Alexander Mata, 45.

Supt. Paul Labra, chief of the intelligence division of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, said police went to the house of couple Percival and Maribel Sebua to serve a search warrant against them.

Labra said the couple owned firearms whose licenses were not renewed.  Seized from the couple’s house were a .34 revolver and a .45 pistol.

Labra said Mata happened to be in the house when the raid was conducted past 10 p.m. last Saturday.

Police apprehended Mata when they caught  him carrying plastic packs of suspected shabu.

Labra said they didn’t know that Mata was a barangay captain until they saw his identification card.

Mata said he was just the middle man of someone engaged in selling illegal drugs but he did not identify the drug pusher./ CHITO O. ARAGON
